The treatment only takes a few minutes, and involves injecting low doses of the neurotoxin into targeted muscles using tiny needles. Most patients agree it’s basically painless!

Some redness or swelling at the injection site is normal and usually resolves within an hour.

You can expect to see the full effects of your Botox or Dysport treatment in about 2 weeks.

  • Botox is a brand name for a type of cosmetic treatment that uses small injections of a purified form of botulinum toxin. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing or weakening specific facial muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

  • Like Botox, Dysport is made from purified proteins that work to temporarily relax the muscles responsible for wrinkles. While the end goal is the same, the molecular makeup of Botox and Dysport is slightly different, and as a result they have different dosing requirements. One unit of Botox is equivalent to approximately three units of Dysport. The choice between Botox and Dysport simply comes down to your injector’s recommendation and personal preference.

  • Botox and Dysport are commonly used to treat a range of cosmetic and clinical conditions. Some of the most popular treatment areas include:

  • You may begin noticing results from Botox or Dysport within 3–7 days after treatment, with full results typically visible around 2–3 weeks. Timing and results can vary slightly based on the individual and treatment area.

  • The results of Botox can last anywhere from 3–4 months, which varies from person to person. Over time, the effects of Botox will gradually wear off as the muscles begin to regain their normal movement and tone.

  • There’s no requirement to maintain treatment every 3–4 months. As Botox or Dysport gradually wears off, muscle movement will slowly return and your results will naturally fade over time.

    Many patients choose to wait until movement has fully returned before retreating, while others prefer maintenance appointments sooner. Depending on the individual, some patients only come in every 3–6 months.

  • Botox and Dysport injections are performed using very small needles, and our patients report that the injections are relatively painless. Some people may experience slight discomfort or pinching during the injections, but the sensations are generally brief and mild.

  • Botox and Dysport treatments involve little to no downtime, and most patients return to normal activities immediately after their appointment (with the exception of intense exercise, which should be avoided for 24 hours). Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or small bumps at the injection sites can occur temporarily and typically resolve within a few hours.

  • Common side effects of Botox and Dysport include temporary redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection site. These side effects are generally mild and should resolve within a few hours to a few days. Some people may experience headaches or an unevenness as results take effect, but these side effects are typically mild and resolve quickly.
