SUN DAMAGE, MEET LUMECCA

Lumecca IPL is the most powerful Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment available, clincally proven to improve skin complexion and reduce skin irregularities for a more youthful appearance. This non-invasive treatment uses photothermolysis to target pigment irregularities such as age spots, sun damage, freckles, vascular lesions, and Rosacea (redness), while stimulating collagen production to improve skin texture. Lumecca delivers significant improvements in pigmentation in just 1-3 sessions, and can effectively treat the face, neck, décolleté, hands, or anywhere on the body that is regularly exposed to the sun. Book an appointment at GLO Bar MedSpa to discover Lumecca IPL, a superior solution to achieve your most radiant and rejuvenated complexion.

What to Expect:

First, you’ll consult with one of our licensed aesthetic providers to discuss your concerns and treatment goals to determine if Lumecca IPL is the right treatment for you.

Before your appointment, be sure to avoid sun exposure and spray tanning for at least 2 weeks, and shave the treatment areas if necessary.

First, we’ll apply a cooling gel to the treatment areas. During the treatment, you’ll notice a bright flash of light, a warm feeling, and a sensation like a light snap from a rubber band. Numbing is not needed for this treatment, and most patients find it almost painless!

The treatment duration can vary depending on the areas being treated, but is usually about 20 minutes for the face. After your treatment, you’ll want to apply and reapply your SPF to protect your beautiful results.

Most patients notice a difference in their skin pigmentation and complexion after just one session, with best results after a series of three sessions, 4-6 weeks apart!

FAQS

Good candidates are individuals with skin concerns like pigmentation irregularities, sun damage, freckles, or redness who want to improve their skin’s texture and tone non-invasively. Be sure to inform your provider if you have a history of melasma, as an alternative procedure may be recommended to address pigmentation concerns associated with that.
Lumecca IPL can be used anywhere on the face or body, typically on areas that are regularly exposed to the sun. The most common treatment areas include the face, neck, décolleté, hands, arms, and legs.
The most important step in preparing for the Lumecca IPL treatment is to avoid direct, excessive sun exposure, tanning, or spray tans for 2-4 weeks prior. You should also inform your provider of any medications you are taking as certain medicines, such as antibiotics, can be photosensitive.
Within 24-48 hours after the treatment, you may notice a darkening of pigmented spots and a gritty texture to the skin, similar to coffee grounds. Over the next week, the pigmented lesions will flake off, revealing a more even skin tone. It’s important to let this process happen naturally, and not try and speed it up with any kind of exfoliation. After treating vascular lesions, you may notice the vein blanch and disappear, or a color change in the vessel, which typically lasts a few days.
Most patients notice sun damage and skin complexion results within about 1-2 weeks after the Lumecca IPL treatment. The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with a series of sessions. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, it may take 2 weeks to see results.
There is typically no downtime associated with this treatment and patients can get back to their everyday activities right away. Be sure to avoid sun exposure in the weeks following the treatment (ideally, always!). A mineral-based SPF 50+ and a hat will be your best friend during your treatment series!
Most patients do not experience any adverse side effects, and any skin reaction from the treatment, such as redness or itchiness, typically resolves within a few hours. Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after the treatment; avoiding direct sunlight or tanning is crucial to getting the best results.
The number of treatments needed varies depending on the type of lesions (pigmented or vascular) and the severity of sun damage. Most patients see an improvement after just one session, with full results after a series of three or more sessions. Your provider will recommend the appropriate number of sessions for your skin type and your goals. With proper skincare and sun protection, patients can experience long-lasting results from Lumecca IPL, but ongoing maintenance sessions may be necessary.
